Analysis of CA Final Results for November 2017

Executive Summary

Just witnessed the CA results day, almost flattish trends in Single Group Results as well as both group results as compared to May’17. It’s the last term where the Old Scheme was applied in totality. Commencing May’18, we will have the New Scheme and the Old Scheme will be phased out in 5 terms by 2020.

As usual it created a bell curve of happiness for the 109,135 candidates who took the exam in Nov’17. There are Rank-holders, First attempts, one group cleared and now a CA or one group cleared and none cleared, now waiting for 10.30 AM on 1^st May 2018 to write the exam again.

30,054 candidates appeared for both groups. Of this, 22.76% i.e. 6,841 candidates have some reason for happiness. They have cleared either one or both groups.

(Last term the comparable number was 22.98% and so it’s almost flat)

Pass % for Group -1, was slightly better, 13.82% last term to 15.91% now

Pass % for Group -2 reduced a bit from 16.2% last term to 15.1% now

The results brings into the 280,000+ strong community, a fresh lot of 9,479 fresher Chartered Accountants. (Last term the comparable number was 10,276, thus ~ 9 % decrease)

In the ICAI Campus process, ~ 1500 candidates secure job. The rest, who opt for industry, are absorbed in the off campus processes.

Since Nov’16, ICAI has started reporting the number of candidates who appeared for both groups and cleared both/one of them.

Thus, we now do not have any sense of the number of 1^st Attempt Both Group CAs who are in the system.

What we know is that 6,841 candidates of the 30,054 candidates have cleared one or both groups.

Toppers

It is an All Boys dominated Toppers List and entirely from North India.

Mohit Gupta from Karnal, Haryana, who has topped the exams, has secured 73.38% marks.

He is followed by Prashant and Aditya from Delhi with 71.38% and 70.62% marks.
