Good Afternoon,
Yesterday, we celebrated International Men’s Day. It is quite ironical that our Dads effectively sacrificed as much as our Moms for our formative years yet it is Mom who generally is remembered more by the kids. Maybe because she was in front of our eyes all the time, while Dad was away at office and was blamed for not giving us enough time. J
On a different note, it’s quite an overdose of work that the Modern Man is struggling to grapple with. Take the case of Mr. Nithin Kamath, Founder & CEO at Zerodha who has to put the activity of playing with his kids on his Calendar
He posted on LinkedIn:
This year has been ridiculous, I now have \”spending time with my 5-year-old son\” scheduled on my calendar. WTF! I was wondering if I was the only insane one until I read this article. \”We are now living amidst the omnipresence of work. Even if we aren’t sitting down working, we are prone to continue thinking about it since the physical environment no longer reminds us to shift our mind state.\”
One can understand Mr Kamath’s predicament. Zerodha recently made headlines as the stock brokerage company gave itself a $1 billion valuation, without having ever gone out to raise money from investors. Zerodha has been growing 100% month-on-month during the lockdown. Work from home has expedited the trend towards moving to mobile and doing most transactions online. The Company, just like most of online businesses, has been lucky through the corona cycle.
(Of course, Recruitment is an exception. At CAJobPortal.com, we filed a GSTR-1 Return, clocking sales for INR 495/- for entire of October).
Post Covid19 induced Work from Home, commuting time was replaced by screen time. Indians ended up working more and more, in an insecure environment. There were retrenchments all over and thus, we wanted to save our costs and be the best on the bell-curve.
It is difficult to switch off from work as have no boundaries of office and work anymore
In family relationships, love is really spelled T.I.M.E
Have you also come to a point where you have to block calendars for spending time with family?
I would make a humble request –Let not the Omnipresence of Work come between you and your family.
At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, a parent.

Sonia Singal
