Executive Summary

Just witnessed the CA results day, almost flattish trends in Single Group Results, a dip in both group results as compared to Nov’17.

Old Scheme will be phased out in 5 terms by 2020, saw 103,773 candidates took the exam

This is the first term for the New Scheme where 4,433 candidates took the exam

As usual it created a bell curve of happiness for the candidates. There are Rank-holders, First attempts, one group cleared and now a CA or one group cleared and none cleared, now waiting for 1^st Nov 2018 to write the exam again.

For candidates who appeared for both groups,   ~25% candidates have some reason for happiness. They have cleared either one or both groups.

The results brings into the CA community, a fresh lot of 9,104+139 = 9, 243 fresher Chartered Accountants.  (This is 2.5% lower than N’17 term figure of 9,479)

CA Foundation Level

A good thing that has happened this time is the re-introduction of CA Foundation sharp reduction in pass % to 19.2% from 40%+ in the CPT era. Thus there will be a stronger filtering process at the entry level itself.

Placements

In the ICAI Campus process, 1,472 candidates out of the 6,029 who registered for the March 2018 process got job offers from the 130 participating companies (Highest CTC of INR 22.3 lacs p.a. and Average of 8.40 lacs p.a.)

The rest, who opt for industry, are absorbed in the off campus processes through direct applications and through agencies like cajobportal.com

This term ICAI placement season starts from 23^rd August at Mumbai and will extend upto the third week of September. The fixed fee for companies is as follows

Trend in CA Final Pass % for Both Groups

Since Nov’16, ICAI has started reporting the number of candidates who appeared for both groups and cleared both/one of them. The data is as follows

Thus ~28% of the CAs who qualified this term were those who took both groups and cleared them in single sitting. The ones who achieved this feat in the first attempt will be a tad lower than this.

 

5 year trend in Group Wise Pass%

Average pass percentage is 13.8% with standard deviation of 5.8% (10 terms)

Average pass percentage is 13.3% with standard deviation of 3.4% (10 terms)

 

Toppers

It is an All Boys dominated Toppers List and entirely from Marwaris and Gujaratis in Western India

Atul Agarwal, who has topped the exams, has secured 77.25% marks.
