#CJP Insights : Apply Jujutsu technique in life and win the game

Good Afternoon,

Vikash in our circle is a bright chap – but the problem is that even after 10+ years of post-qualification experience, he doesn’t have a reportee. Confronted with this unnerving question in interviews, he would almost invariably crack under the pressure.

And one fine day, he decided to apply the jujutsu approach.

The jujutsu approach involves two basic steps:

  • Don’t oppose the person across the table – accept the aggressive energy of the interviewer. “I agree that I do not have team management skills” – this catches the opponent off guard.
  • Utilize the energy for a counter-attack: “but as you can see that as an individual contributor, I have been used to handling the entire plethora of activities as a Doer and not just a Reviewer. I am sure if I get sub-ordinates, they will be inspired by my ability to do the work and teach them. And the advantage is that even if they don’t do the work, I will be able to do it myself. I am still hands on my work”

Guess what, the interview panel was super impressed and decided to give him a break

Jujutsu (joo-JOOT-soo; Japanese: 柔術, is a Japanese martial art and a method where you defeat an armed and armored opponent by using no weapon or only a short weapon.“Jū” can be translated to mean “gentle, soft, supple, flexible, pliable, or yielding.”

Because striking against an armored opponent proved ineffective, it is better to be neutralizing an enemy through pins, joint locks, and throws. As compared to techniques such as karate, which rely more on striking, based on the principle of using an attacker’s energy against the attacker rather than directly opposing it. You manipulate the opponent’s force against yourself rather than confronting it with your own force.

Isnt this a wonderful technique that we all could apply against opponents.

What is that one situation where you can apply Jujutsu?
